Weekend Getaway to Melaka (260610 to 270610)

What do you do when you are all stressed out (not me, but ppl ard me la) but you can’t take leave nor have the extra moo-lah to splurge on expensive far away-land holiday??? (this statement include me in it yo!)

We opt for nearer, budget conscious trip with our travel buddies of course (or maybe bestie/ gf’s/ bf’s/ whoever-may-concern-la)!!! And we did just that, one weekend, I packed my bags and left FeiB behind in KL (him and the World Cup, mou ngan tai) and went for a short road trip with my fellow MMUians. Been a long time since we last travel together…

Our target for the weekend: MALACCA - Near (tak rasa also lo the travel time since we gossip so much), Cost Efficient (Accommodation – THZ’s house aka FOC) and best of all, a trip surrounded by Good o’Friends. This is a recipe for a relaxing and stress – off weekend.

Started the journey early Saturday morning to THZ’s house to dump our belongings and off we went to search for food. It’s Malacca wei…of course food comes into the mind first!! Stop no. 1 – lunch time @ Masjid Tengkera: Nasi Lemak, Nyonya Laksa, Mee Siam, Pai Tee, Popiah, Cendol, belasah everything la.

2nd stop : Pork Satay at Jonker Street (more like behind Jonker actually). The shop is located at the same stretch of road where Hallmark Hotel is, so it’s quite easy to find. Initially, we ordered only 20 sticks in total as we were all damn full from lunch, but munching away, we soon find ourselves taking close to 60 sticks of it…yummy yummy (I’m pork deprived somehow so this is good J).

Now that we have already satisfied our hungry stomach, it’s time for the highlight of the trip – a visit to the Turtle Conservation Camp!! Gosh, I studied here for close to 5 years but got no idea at all that such a place exists in Malacca. Did you know that contrary to the popular belief in which turtle can mostly be found in Kuala Terengganu, Malacca is actually one of the places for turtle conservation! In fact, it is rated as the highest breeding ground for hawksbill turtle!

The site actually provides a good exposure on turtle survival and how man contribute to its extinction but such awareness always comes with the danger of people misusing it and causing more harm to the turtles rather than saving it (like taking photos of it with flash/ throwing the baby turtles around/ throwing rubbish that will eventually indirectly killed it). I know some of the action is done without intention (I did some mistakes too aka touching them in the water which will cause the turtles to be stressful. I terribly regret that action =(), but since we know that such creature are so fragile, I guess it’s better to be prepared during the visit. For one, if we were to bring children, take real close look at them cos the innocent child might end up tossing the little creature unknowingly – something that happened the other day…haiz…and two, take care of your rubbish, you wouldn’t want it to be the cause of those turtles demises >.<>

Cos that is when you will know that only 1 out of 5000 turtles are able to survive to adulthood and the other 4999 – their demise is caused by 25% due to natural factor and 75% due to human (fishing/ water activities/ rubbish/ turtle eating/ etc). This is real bad lo…

Kinda sad listening to such briefing…but end of it marks the beginning of new life (not for us) for these cute little turtles who is just 4 days old. Time for the ‘release turtles to the sea ceremony’

And there goes our evening. Very well spend I might add. So after all those hard work (camwhoring included!), it’s time to replenish our energy and what better way to do it than having a scrumptious seafood dinner at Portuguese Settlement!!

Total damage : RM149 (not inclusive of the drinks). Drinks cost RM2.50 each and are simply addictive. Confirm each will order more than 1 cup geh J

And this ends our weekend getaway. Well, at least for me la cos I’m down with migraine the next day. Gosh, I hate myself for having such sickness, cos it’s not only damn freaking painful, it kills the mood away for almost everything else. Even dim sum also I ate half heartedly only...

But nevertheless, it will forever be remembered as another fond trip down the memory lane.
